Distinctive Unit Insignia


Description/Blazon
A Gold color metal and enamel device 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height overall consisting of a shield blazoned: Argent, on a saltire Azure a lion passant guardant, in dexter chief a fleur-de-lis and in sinister chief a prickly pear cactus both paleways, all Or. Attached below the shield a Gold scroll inscribed "STAND FORTH" in Blue letters.

Symbolism
The shield is white for Infantry. The saltire represents service during the Civil War, the blue indicating that the organization fought on the Northern side. The gold lion, from the arms of Great Britain, represents Revolutionary War service; the prickly pear cactus, duty on the Mexican Border; and the fleur-de-lis, service in France during World War I.

Background
The distinctive unit insignia was approved on 26 March 1927. It was amended to correct the description on 4 April 1927.
